Notes Van Gogh notes on May 12 in letter 487 that, after two weeks of just drawing, he had started to work on this oil painting. He included a scribble where he noted the colours. 'This view [...] surrounded by fields all covered with yellow and purple flowers [...] like a Japanese dream.' It might be interesting to compare the graphical elements of the painting to a drawing of same sujet, F_1416r, which was done in first week of May. --a312.
