It was founded and led by the Natanson brothers (Alexander and Louis-Alfred Thaddeus said Alfred Athis). After born in Liège in 1889, the magazine moved to Paris in 1891 where it arises rival Mercure de France, hence its name, which marked the difference with the purple cover of Mercury. The wife of Thaddeus, Misia, participated in the launch of the magazine and serves as a model for some blankets. Secretaries were writing critic Lucien Muhlfeld but Blum himself and, more importantly and finally, Felix demanding Fénéon from 1896 to 1903.
